The earliest memories of Copenhagen relate to the 12th century. It used to be a fishing village of the Vikings, and even today one can find the traces of those explorers of the North. A few decades ago, Copenhagen became a growing and prosperous city, in fact the biggest one in the region. Nowadays, approximately two million people inhabit it. There are many scientific and financial centers there. This city is one of the European centers of art, with its numerous museums and historical monuments. There are many old buildings, fountains, plazas, which make Copenhagen the most visited city not only of Denmark, but Scandinavia in all. Copenhagen is also very famous for its well-known Little Mermaid statue.
