Durrës is an ancient, attractive and full of contrasts Albanian city, located on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. The city is the area of concrete bunkers and ancient ruins. On one hand, in ancient Durrës there are many monuments of the Roman era. Among the most interesting ones there is an amphitheatre built in the II century BC. Another historic site is a Byzantine city wall of the VI century, reinforced by Venetian towers in the XIV century. On the other hand, the port of Durres is definitely worth visiting as you will be in awe of the gigantic loading mechanisms, many different ships and other port attributes. In the vicinity of Durres bunkers are everywhere as some kind of legacy of a turbulent era. Durrës is ideal for a beach holiday as the beach is well equipped, the water is clean and the sand bar stretches quite far into the sea.
